Hamilton Marino is hosting a tour of The Switch, Berkeley St, a 22-storey purpose-built student accommodation development at 680 Elizabeth Street in Melbourne’s education precinct. The project is being delivered by TAL GP PROJECTS in partnership with Nuveen Real Estate and Switch Living, with Rothelowman as architect.
The scheme will provide 382 student rooms across studio and shared apartment layouts. It combines heritage façade retention with a contemporary tower form, and is positioned within walking distance of the University of Melbourne, RMIT and key public transport links.
Shared spaces are a central part of the development. The project includes study areas, wellness facilities, communal rooms and rooftop amenity, alongside ground-floor spaces intended to activate the street edge.
Construction began in early 2025, with Hamilton Marino undertaking demolition and façade retention works. The project is now progressing through major works, including in-ground services and the first-floor slab, with practical completion targeted for early 2027.
The Switch, Berkeley St is part of a broader wave of institutional student accommodation in Melbourne, where demand continues to be shaped by the city’s university base and long-term student housing needs.
The tour will include:
- A completed student accommodation room, including a functional pod bathroom.
- Rooftop student amenities, currently under construction.
- Ground floor and Level 1 amenities, currently under construction.
- The completed heritage façade.
Please note: this is a hard hat tour on a live construction site. Full PPE is required, and some PPE will be available on the day.
